In 1878, our founder, Jujiro Motegi, was approached by his elder brother, Haruta, with a question: was it possible to create a non-toxic face powder? The following year, in response to the widespread problem of lead poisoning caused by face powder in Japan at the time, Jujiro became the first in Japan to successfully refine non-toxic zinc oxide. In 1880, he went on to develop Japan’s first domestically produced paint. The history of Nippon Paint Group began in 1881, when Jujiro Motegi established Komyosha, our predecessor.
As we mark our 145th anniversary, Nippon Paint Group will continue to create new and innovative products and technologies, carrying forward a founding spirit—passed down through generations—of addressing societal challenges.
