Nippon Paint to Launch October 25 the “From the Nippon Paint Town –The World is Constantly Filled with Colors”
TV Commercial to Communicate the Wonders of Paints

Nippon Paint Holdings Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will launch a new TV commercial, “From the Nippon Paint Town –The World is Constantly Filled with Colors,” on Monday, October 25, 2021.

Restrictions due to the pandemic prevented people from going out and enjoying a world filled with colors. However, society is finally starting to open again. We created a new TV commercial based on the concept of finding the marvels of colors in our lives and the appeal of paint. The 1/50 scale miniatures of the imaginary Nippon Paint Town including buildings created with paint cans and bridges made of paint brushes make this commercial enjoyable to watch again and again.

The commercial was created with no computer graphics by using frame-by-frame stop motion animation while manually moving the miniatures little by little. Please enjoy the unique retro-futuristic world of Nippon Paint Town, which is full of little tricks and evokes nostalgic, heart-warming memories of the Showa era while also expressing hope for the future.

“Nippon Paint Town” communicates the wonder of paint

【Commercial script】
The new commercial “From the Nippon Paint Town” is a follow-up to our previous commercial “From the Nippon Paint Room,” which showed viewers that the excitement and fascination of paint and its functions go beyond just adding color. In our new commercial, we jump into the outside world. Miniatures of the park and streetscape of Nippon Paint Town are glowing in the morning sun that wakes up animals and plants. The whole town, with vividly painted miniatures of buildings and structures that communicate the appeal of paint, starts a new day. The commercial’s script explains, with a warm touch, connections between colors that we see in our everyday lives and society to stimulate viewers to rediscover joys and hopes around them. The last scene shows a person drawing a rainbow arching over Nippon Paint Town, sending the message that the future is filled with colorful possibilities.

【Scenes from the making of the commercial】
This commercial was shot by stop motion animation studio dwarf, which creates animations including character animations for NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster. By meticulously moving the miniatures millimeter by millimeter and scene by scene, using tweezers and other instruments, the crew made the miniatures come to life. The miniatures were painted using 23 different colors of paint by Nippon Paint. The 30-second animation was produced by connecting about 800 still images. Through shooting lasting more than 90 hours, the crew skillfully depicted the world of miniatures, which falls between live action and CG animation.

The Nippon Paint Group turns 140 years old

Founded in 1881, as a comprehensive paint manufacturer which boasts the longest history of any paint manufacturer in Japan, we are celebrating our 140th anniversary.
In accordance with the corporate philosophy that has been carried down since the company’s founding, we confront social issues, including developing an anti-virus paint, and are carrying out research and development of paint and coating technologies.
