Tokyo Innovation Center Is Set to Launch Full-Scale Operations as a Central Hub for Domestic R&D

Nippon Paint holdings Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that Tokyo Innovation Center, serving as our core hub for research and development activities in Japan, will commence full-scale operations in July 2025. Located within our Tokyo Office premises at 4-1-15 Minami-Shinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, the facility was completed in March 2025.

The newly constructed Tokyo Innovation Center has been established to enhance the technological capabilities of our Japan Group. Designed with an open-plan layout, the center brings together engineers from all group companies on a single floor, creating a collaborative environment that promotes open communication. This setup is aimed at fostering cross-functional collaboration, accelerating the integration and evolution of technologies, and driving both productivity and innovation.

Tokyo Innovation Center is a five-story facility and ranks among the largest research centers within the Nippon Paint Group globally. It will serve as the base for over 200 engineers and specialists from Nippon Paint Co., Ltd., Nippon Paint Automotive Coatings Co., Ltd., Nippon Paint Industrial Coatings Co., Ltd., Nippon Paint Surf Chemicals Co., Ltd., Nippon Paint Marine Coatings Co., Ltd., and Nippon Paint Corporate Solutions Co., Ltd., bringing together a diverse range of technical expertise under one roof.

The facility will function as the Group’s central hub for R&D activities, supporting open innovation initiatives in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including customers, research institutions, leading universities around the world, and value chain partners, with the goal of driving the development of new technologies.

  • Scale: Site area – 18,249m2 ; Total floor area – 9,929m2 ; Five stories above ground
  • Main facilities: Laboratories, training center, conference rooms, offices, meeting rooms, and more
  • Completion: March 2025 (Full-scale operations to begin in July following completion of equipment relocation and installation)
  • Investment: ¥7.0 billion (including costs for equipment relocation and installation, site improvements, and related expenses)
