Heat shield technology
This technology efficiently reflects infrared rays, which turn into heat when absorbed, in sunlight. It is expected to improve the indoor environment and mitigate the heat island phenomenon.
What is heat shield technology?
Heat shield technology efficiently reflects solar energy. A special pigment that suppresses the absorption of infrared rays is used for the finish coating film. Parts of infrared rays that transmit through the finish coating film are reflected by exclusive primer coat. The multilayer film enhances the heat shield effect. It reflects solar energy to prevent roofs and road surfaces from becoming hot.
What are the key features of this technology?
Solar radiation includes ultraviolet rays, visible light, and infrared rays. Notably, infrared rays are absorbed by substances and turn into heat. Heat shield paints are designed to increase the reflectance of infrared rays compared to general paints of the same tone. The reflectance varies depending on the tone, but the higher the reflectance, the higher the heat shield effect.
Contribution to solving social issues
In metropolitan areas, temperature rise has been observed beyond that of global warming. This is called the heat island phenomenon. The main cause is the accumulation of heat from solar energy in concrete buildings and asphalt-paved roads. The heat shield paints are expected to mitigate the heat island phenomenon and improve the indoor environment by suppressing accumulation of heat in these buildings and road surfaces.
