Environmentally friendly technology to prevent concrete spalling
We have succeeded in using only water-based materials for the process to prevent spalling of concrete structures by applying coating films. The use of water-based materials reduces the risk of fire and generation of hazardous chemicals during work.
What is the environmentally friendly technology to prevent concrete spalling?
We have succeeded in using only water-based materials for the process to prevent concrete spalling. The use of water-based materials can reduce the risk of fire and emissions of hazardous chemicals during work. At present, epoxy-amine-based putty, which is mainly used in the market, poses the risk of rash. The risk can be reduced by achieving one-part liquid (mixture with powder).
What are the key features of this technology?
The key feature is the intermediate coating paint. This intermediate coating paint uses both a pigment that cures quickly through reaction with water and a special resin that is highly water-resistant. This is the core of the technology. This intermediate coating paint is used to apply mesh sheets on structures to prevent concrete spalling. In addition, water-based undercoating, which is highly permeable to concrete, and a water-based finish, which easily transmits water vapor, achieve good adhesion to concrete. This has made it possible to develop an entirely water-based environmentally friendly process to prevent concrete spalling with long-term durability.
Contribution to solving social issues
Many structures which were constructed during the high economic growth period have become increasingly deteriorated. They require proper maintenance to achieve sustainable development of people’s lives. It is necessary to use low-fire-risk and environmentally friendly repair materials for maintenance. Rash and other symptoms that workers develop due to repair materials may pose risks of delays in on-site work.
This process uses an entirely water-based paint, which is friendly to the environment and workers. It is useful for maintaining infrastructure.
