Recognizing Skills Built Through Years of Experience

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program, launched in collaboration with TNSDC, is designed to formally recognize the value of tradespeople who have developed high levels of skill over many years, regardless of whether they hold formal certifications.

Through this program, Sri Lankan Refugee Tamil painters across 23 districts of Tamil Nadu are being formally certified for the skills and experience they have already built within the construction ecosystem. Rather than teaching basic skills, the program acknowledges the years of unrecognized craftsmanship these professionals already bring to their work and helps make the value of their experience visible. In doing so, it directly strengthens livelihoods while also fostering a more inclusive workforce.

Supporting the Next Generation of Painting & Decorating Talent

In parallel, Nippon Paint India is also supporting young talent in Painting & Decorating in collaboration with TNSDC. District and State Level skill competitions were successfully conducted, followed by a focused one-week intensive training program at the company’s Training Center, providing hands-on, industry-relevant exposure.

As a result, five promising candidates were selected and mentored to represent Tamil Nadu at the National-Level Painting & Decorating Skill Competition. These efforts help young people build confidence through skills and support them in shaping their future careers.
